Advanced Treatments For Rosacea Keep It Under Control!

Although pink cheeks may be quite adorable sometimes, they can also be a sign of a disease called rosacea. And this disease might not be that adorable if you ask anyone who has it.

Rosacea is a common acne-like skin condition that is chronic and incurable but can be managed. It’s usually first observed as a tendency to blush more easily. Then the redness can start getting worse and/or spread and that’s when the disease is usually diagnosed.

This skin condition goes beyond the redness. There are many other symptoms such as sensitive skin, bumpy texture, swollen, dry or oily skin, and others. In fact, there are 4 main types of Rosacea, each one with specific symptoms:

  1. Papulopustular rosacea: acne-like breakouts that come and go, patches (plaques) of red skin, oily skin, spider veins, sensitive and stingy skin.
  2. Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea: spider veins, sensitive skin, dry and rough skin,
  3. Ocular rosacea: itchy and sensitive eyes, blurred vision, spider veins and/or cysts on the eyelid, dry eyes.
  4. Phymatous rosacea: this is the rarest type of rosacea, and it usually starts with the symptoms of other types of rosacea. The main symptoms are bumpy and thick skin (especially on the cheeks, chin, forehead and ears), spider veins, large pores and oily skin.

Although there is no cure for this condition, it can be managed. There are some treatments available, and the right for you will be decided according to your case.

The first step is to identify your triggers and avoid them. Rosacea can be triggered by things such as sunlight, alcohol, heat and stress, so avoiding them is the first step. There are also creams, oral medications and even laser and light-based treatments available. For ocular rosacea, your doctor might also recommend warm compresses and eye drops. For more extreme cases of thickening skin, the surgical removal of patches of thick skin might be recommended.

So, if you have any of the symptoms mentioned above, contact our office.  The sooner the treatment starts the better, and the effects of rosacea in your life will be minimal.
