Surgical Dermatology

Surgical dermatology is a specialized branch of dermatology that focuses on the surgical management of various skin conditions, diseases, and aesthetic concerns. Our board certified dermatologists are trained to perform various surgical procedures on the skin, nails, and underlying structures to diagnose, treat, and improve the appearance of different skin conditions.

Some common procedures performed in surgical dermatology include:

Skin Biopsies: The removal of a small sample of skin tissue for diagnostic purposes, to determine the presence of skin diseases or conditions.

Excision of Skin Lesions: The surgical removal of benign or malignant skin growths, such as moles, cysts, lipomas, or skin cancers.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery: A precise surgical technique used to remove skin cancers, especially those with ill-defined borders or high recurrence rates. The procedure involves removing layers of cancerous tissue progressively and examining them under a microscope until no cancer cells remain.

Scar Revision: Surgical procedures performed to improve the appearance of scars resulting from trauma, surgery, burns, or other skin conditions. Techniques may include excision, closure with advanced suturing techniques, laser resurfacing, or dermabrasion.

Skin Grafting: The transplantation of healthy skin from one area of the body (the donor site) to replace damaged or missing skin at another site (the recipient site). It is commonly used for large wounds, burns, or reconstructive procedures.

Nail Surgery: Surgical interventions to treat conditions affecting the nails, such as ingrown toenails, nail infections, or nail deformities.
