MOHS

Mohs micrographic surgery is a tissue sparing technique used to treat certain types of skin cancer. The treatment is named after Frederic Mohs, who developed this technique in the 1930’s as a definitive way to precisely target skin cancer cells by skillfully removing them layer by layer.  After each layer is removed it is examined under a microscope to determine the scope of the treatment area. The process is repeated until the doctor no longer sees any skin cancer cells. Physicians who perform Mohs surgery are expertly trained in the procedure, receiving specialized fellowship training in the technique.

Skin cancer can be life threatening, however, Mohs surgery is considered the gold standard for successful treatment of skin cancer. In fact it is nearly 99% effective in removing skin cancer cells. Mohs treatments are conducted in the comfort of our office using a local anesthetic and the length of treatment depends on the area to be treated. We are committed to excellence in patient care and are pleased to have Dr. Harold Rabinovitz, who is a Board Certified Dermatologist and a Fellowship Trained Mohs surgeon, available to treat our patients.
